Eoleaf's TeraPur 600 air purifier vs. Coway Airmega Mighty: which one is right for you?

Heading into 2026, the choice of air purifiers is vast. Air purifiers are available in just about every color, size, and price range under the sun. Throughout your initial research for the ideal air purifier, you almost certainly stumbled upon Coway. Coway has been one of the leading air purifier manufacturers for years, widely known as the “king of budget-friendly air purifiers.” However, how do Coway air purifiers perform technically? Customers have begun waking up to the marketing fluff that has become so common amongst air purifier manufacturers with Coway being no exception. This article will be diving into the differences between Coway’s most popular air purifier model, the Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH, and Eoleaf’s TeraPur 600, our mid-sized air purifier that filters around the same coverage area (according to Coway claims). Read on to learn more.

Coway's Airmega Mighty air purifier vs. Eoleaf's TeraPur 600 air purifier

Performance: how do these air purifiers measure up?

The differences between these two models begin with their air purification technologies. This is a well-established fact in the science of air purification: different technologies target different forms of air pollution. Not only do the technologies differ, but the quality of these technologies varies, too.

Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH

The Coway Airmega Mighty utilizes a very basic 3-step air purification technology. All of the technologies are standard in the air purification industry, consisting of a pre-filter (for coarse particles), a “deodorization filter” (an activated carbon filter for chemical pollution like VOCs and odors), and a “HEPA filter” (for fine particles). As with most low-cost air purifiers, more technical information regarding these technologies is limited. How much activated carbon does their deodorization filter offer? Is their HEPA filter certified?

Filtration technologies

Coway Airmega Mighty's air filtration technologies
HEPA filter

First of all, let’s take a closer look at Coway’s HEPA filter. The air purification industry is notorious for “HEPA branding”, meaning that instead of adhering to the strict HEPA standards that are in place within the industry to guarantee performance, companies will instead develop and trademark their own standard. We have seen this amongst brands like Blueair (with their HEPASilent technology) and Shark (with their NanoSeal HEPA), to name a few. Coway has followed exactly in the same footsteps of these companies by trademarking their own HEPA technology: GreenHEPA. Coway themselves admit that this is marketing jargon with the “green” referring to the antimicrobial coating that they use on their filters to prevent mold from growing on them. It also makes it impossible for customers to buy third-party filters that might offer the same performance since they do not contain Coway’s proprietary treatment.

It seems that Coway HEPA filters adhere to the Korean Air Cleansing Association standard (SPS-KACA 002-132-2022) and the US IEST-RP-CC007 standard. However, there is no mention of the word “certified” (a common red flag) or compliance with the most stringent standard, the European EN 1822. There is also no mention of a HEPA class: typically, when a HEPA filter is certified, it will fall into one of the several HEPA categories ranging from H11 to H14. To provide an example, all of Eoleaf air purifiers contain a medical-grade HEPA H13-certified filter as part of their 8-step filtration technology. Coway claims that their HEPA filter traps 99.999% of nano-sized particles down to 0.01 microns, but without HEPA certification, this cannot be verified.

Activated carbon filter

Another common filtration technology is activated carbon, one of the most efficient filtration technologies used for chemical pollution (VOCs, for example) and odors. Coway’s “deodorization filter” is your run-of-the-mill activated carbon filter but under a different name with the goal of making it sound a bit more unique than it is. Activated carbon’s efficiency is determined by its weight: the more activated carbon there is, the greater the surface area, and the more chemical pollution and odors it absorbs and stores. This information is difficult to find on the Coway website. A filter set for the Airmega Mighty, which contains two deodorization filters and one HEPA filter, weighs approximately 360g to 400g (roughly 12.8 to 14.1 ounces). Given that the Eoleaf TeraPur 600 contains 640g of activated carbon alone in its filter, the fact that three of their filters together weigh about half of that quantity, we can assume that their activated carbon filters are extremely thin. For a low-cost air purifier, this is not surprising, but for those truly expecting to filter out VOCs or odors, it would be best to look elsewhere.

Lack of UVC sterilization

Clearly missing from this list is an essential technology: UVC sterilization. Not only is this technology important in combatting airborne germs, it is crucial in sterilizing your filter and making it safe for handling during filter changes. We consider it to be an instrumental technology in ensuring user safety.

Coverage area

The Coway Airmega Mighty claims to cover areas of up to 162 m2 (1,748 sq. ft.). Sounds almost too good to be true for this little device! This is because it is, in fact, too good to be true. When you scroll down to the fine print in the technical specifications section of the Airmega Mighty product page, you will find the following:

  • 1 air change/hr.* 1,748 ft² (162 m²)
  • 2 air changes/hr.* 874 ft² (81 m²)
  • 4.8 air changes/hr.*** 361 ft² (34 m²)
Coway's Airmega Mighty's technical specifications

In summary, the Airmega Mighty can technically  cover an area of 162 m2, but it will take an hour to do so, which is much too slow. In the air purification industry, an air purifier is not considered to be effective if it does not achieve an ACH (Air Changes per Hour) of at least 3, meaning that it will completely replace all of the air in your space three times per hour. Imagine sneezing in a room and your air purifier requiring one hour to remove those germs from the air!

To be able to achieve an ACH of at least 3 (given its CADR, or Clean Air Delivery Rate, of 421 m3/h or 247 CFM), this device would not be able to cover spaces of any larger than 58 m2 (624 sq. ft.), and certainly should not be marketed as being able to filter spaces of any larger than this.

It is worth mentioning that on the Coway France website, the Airmega Mighty claims to only be able to cover spaces of up to 109 m2 (1173 sq. ft.). This is due to the more stringent requirements regarding coverage area claims in Europe. This shows that Coway will use whichever data is most conducive to selling their product, regardless of the impact it has on the user.

Eoleaf’s TeraPur 600

Filtration technologies

Here at Eoleaf, indoor air purification is the heart of our business. Our goal is to remove all types of indoor air pollution: fine particles, chemical pollution (VOCs), odors, biological pollution (germs, pet hair and dander, dust and dust mites).

HEPA filter

We heavily value transparency here at Eoleaf. This is why, as just one part of our 8-step air purification technology, our medical-grade HEPA H13-certified filter adheres to all available certifications, including the most stringent: the European EN 1822. Our air purifiers are guaranteed and third-party tested to remove 99.97% of all air pollutants down to a size of 0.01 microns in a single pass. They have also been third-party tested for their efficiency. Additionally, we make our certifications available to the public.

Our filters are big, heavy, and durable. They are engineered to store all indoor air pollutants for up to a year.

Activated carbon filter

Eoleaf is one of the only brands on the market that (proudly!) publishes activated carbon weights. We do not use thin sheets of activated carbon in our filters: our activated carbon filter layer is heavy in order to increase its surface area. As a result, it is capable of absorbing a significantly higher number of chemical pollutants and odors as compared to other brands.

Eoleaf air purifiers contain the following amounts of activated carbon:

Additional technologies

In addition to a medical-grade, HEPA H13-certified filter layer and a heavy duty activated carbon filter layer, Eoleaf technologies come equipped with 6 more technologies, each of which are designed to target a different form of indoor air pollution. This is one of the main factors that sets Eoleaf apart from other brands on the market.

Our air purifiers are designed to combat all three forms of indoor air pollution. In order to ensure that this is done effectively, we employ redundant technologies: at least two of our 8 technologies are dedicated to the removal of a specific form of indoor air pollution. For example, to combat fine particles, we employ both a high-quality HEPA H13-certified filter and ionization technologies. To fight chemical and gaseous pollution (like VOCs, ozone, carbon monoxide, and more), our air purifiers come equipped with a heavy, efficient activated carbon filter and photocatalysis technologies. Finally, for the removal of airborne germs, we use a silver nitrate antibacterial coating on our filters as well as UVC sterilization technologies (the latter of which serves two purposes - it targets airborne germs but also sterilizes your filter to make it safe for handling during filter changes).

With Eoleaf, performance is the name of the game. When it comes to your health and the health of those most vulnerable in our communities, we use the most tried-and-true technologies that have been trusted for decades. No marketing ploys, no gimmicks: just science-backed air purification.

Eoleaf's 8-step air purification technology

Coverage area

Eoleaf’s TeraPur 600 air purifier covers areas of up to 80 m2 (850 sq. ft.), all while assuring an ACH (Air Changes per Hour) of a minimum of 3 - meaning, as mentioned above, that it completely replaces polluted air in a space with clean air three times per hour. This is the industry standard set by specialized health agencies like the WHO and the EPA, and air purifiers that do not achieve an ACH of at least 3 are not considered to be effective. Unlike Coway, who markets their products based on an ACH of 1 as shown above, we, again, prefer transparency and user safety, and will only market our products in a way that reflects this.

Our other air purifiers are equally as powerful. See their respective coverage areas with their respective CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rates) below:

  • NeoPur 400: covers areas of up to 40 m2 (420 sq. ft.), 420 m³/h (247 cfm)
  • TeraPur 600: covers areas of up to 80 m2 (850 sq. ft.), 570 m³/h (336 cfm)
  • AltaPur 700: covers areas of up to 120 m2 (1300 sq. ft.), 670 m³/h (394 cfm)

To summarize, with a CADR of 570 m3/h, the Eoleaf TeraPur 600 has approximately 35% higher raw power than the Coway. In the same 162 m2 room (assuming standard 2.5m or 8 ft. ceilings), the TeraPur 600 would provide roughly 1.46 ACH, compared to the Coway’s 1 ACH. To maintain the effective 3 ACH standard, the TeraPur 600 can handle a room of roughly 80 m2, as advertised, whereas the Coway is limited to 58 m2.

Real-life efficiency for different use cases

Overall, the Coway Airmega Mighty is considered more as a maintenance device rather than a clinical solution for indoor air pollution. For allergy sufferers, urban residents, or those with pre-existing respiratory conditions, it will simply not be sufficient. This is where the Eoleaf TeraPur 600 comes in. With its impressive power and certified performance, it is an ideal solution for those looking to reduce adverse health symptoms and protect themselves from the dangers of indoor air pollution.

The TeraPur 600 is perfect for any indoor environment, individual or professional spaces alike: small apartments or flats, entire homes, medical practices, waiting rooms, schools and daycares, offices, care homes and nursing homes, restaurants, hair and nail salons, hotels, and gyms and fitness centers, to name a few.

Usability and connectivity: ease of use across environments

Setup and user experience

Both devices are plug & play or “set it and forget it”. This means that you simply plug in the device, and it is ready to go. However, users have reported the Coway interface as feeling a bit outdated with its color-coded LED ring. The Eoleaf TeraPur 600 not only has a modern feel and sleek design with its updated touch panels, it also comes equipped with a handheld remote control that allows you to control your air purifier from a distance. Our handheld remote control has two high-quality sensors that detect HCHO (for formaldehyde, the most common form of chemical pollution) and PM2.5 (widely considered to be the most dangerous form of fine particle pollution). This is transparency that Coway devices, at this price point, simply can’t match.

Mobility and design integration

The Coway Airmega Mighty has a “record player” aesthetic that leaves users polarized. It is particularly lightweight, which some equally equate to being of lower quality (especially when it comes to the filter). All Eoleaf devices, on the other hand, are both aesthetic and solid with robust internal components. Albeit heavier, they are engineered for easy movement: the TeraPur 600, like the AltaPur 700, has integrated wheels that make it a cinch to move from room to room. The NeoPur 400, our most compact models, is also designed for easy movement with its practical handles.

Smart features and app compatibility

As would be expected for a low-cost air purifier, the Coway Airmega Mighty is neither Wi-Fi equipped nor app compatible.

The entire Eoleaf range offers a host of smart features including (but not limited to):

  • Tuya Smart app compatibility: control your device remotely, track your indoor air quality, and keep an eye on your filter’s real usage (and receive alerts when it’s time to change your filter thanks to our filter change indicator!)
  • Voice control: use Alexa, Google Assistant, and/or Siri to control your device
  • Gesture control: the TeraPur 600 has both a physical button on the device but, in high-risk environments where germ spread is of particular concern, gesture-control is an excellent addition
  • Smart scheduling: set it and forget it by choosing when you want your air purifier to increase its fan speed or react automatically to new incoming pollutants (thanks to Automatic mode)

Maintenance, energy efficiency, and warranty: long-term value

Filter replacements

As seen with many mainstream air purifiers on the market, Coway requires you to purchase separate filters with different lifespans. Coway claims that their activated carbon filters have a 6-year lifespan. Seeing how small and thin their activated carbon filters are (this carbon-coated fiber sheet is often criticized for its inability to handle heavy odors or high levels of VOCs), in our expert opinion, it is difficult to imagine that Coway’s activated carbon filters would be able to last more than six months (which some users have confirmed). This claim is, frankly, irresponsible on Coway’s part. Chemical pollution (VOCs) is one of the most common and harmful forms of indoor air pollution, and continuing to use a saturated filter poses a health threat to the user: a saturated filter will reemit air pollutants when continued to be used. Additionally, some user reviews have reported a decrease in filter density in recent years, meaning that these filters likely have an even shorter lifespan. The Coway HEPA filter claims to require a change every 12 months.

Coway Airmega Mighty's replacement filters

Eoleaf filters, on the other hand, have a 12-month lifespan. Conveniently, there is no need to remember different filter change schedules since all 8 filtration technologies are contained within one filter block. Our filters last significantly longer, removing the need to change individual, low-grade carbon sheets.

Energy consumption

The only information regarding power consumption for the Coway Airmega Mighty is “77 W”. It is not specified on which fan speed. We are assuming that this is at its maximum fan speed (of which the Airmega Mighty has three).

Eoleaf devices, on the other hand, are engineered to consume as little amounts of energy as possible. On lower fan speeds, the TeraPur 600 consumes as little as 10-12W, making them eco-friendly for 24/7 operation. Their motors are balanced to provide maximum airflow with minimum vibration, leading to a better noise-to-power ratio than the Coway during high-pollen seasons. The TeraPur 600 consumes the following (specific to fan speed):

  • ECO stand-by power ≤2W
  • Speed 1: 10.1 W
  • Speed 2: 13.5 W
  • Speed 3: 19.2 W
  • Speed 4:  35.8 W
  • Speed 5: 56.8 W

As clearly shown, even at its maximum speed (speed 5), it consumes significantly less energy than the Airmega Mighty, assuming that the 77 W mentioned is the energy consumed at its fastest fan speed which we are unable to confirm.

The verdict: Eoleaf is the ultimate investment in your health

The Eoleaf TeraPur 600 embodies a major advancement in medical-grade air filtration, whereas the Coway Airmega Mighty remains an entry-level choice for small rooms with very basic filtration needs. By combining an advanced 8-step filtration system with smarter connectivity and a more robust design, Eoleaf ensures that your environment is free from all types of air pollution, even the more complex ones. For those prioritizing long-term health, superior VOC removal, and a device that scales to the needs of a modern home or office, Eoleaf is the clear winner. Investing in Eoleaf means choosing professional-standard air quality that protects your well-being with every breath.
