Why is it important to change the filter of your air purifier every year?

Eoleaf and AIRVIA Medical devices use one of the most advanced and comprehensive air filtration technologies on the market. This ensures durability of our products and greatly simplifies maintenance: you only have to change one filter once a year.

Why is it so important to change the filter at least once a year?

There are several reasons for this. The first is the gradual saturation of the filter. Over time, the filter becomes completely saturated with the airborne pollutants that have been captured over the past year, rendering them entirely unable to filter the air (or, if they are still able to filter the air, they do so poorly). Many customers understand that the higher the level of pollution, the faster it will saturate the filter. But few know that filters have a shelf life (six months in our warehouses, for example). Even when the air purifier is not turned on, the filters react with the air and capture pollutants continuously (although much more slowly).

Once the filter is saturated, what are the risks?

The first risk is for your health: once the filter is saturated, it does not filter air pollution. This means that it no longer eliminates all of the pollutants it once did, and nowhere near as quickly. Moreover, in the long run, it will even begin to release some of the pollutants it had captured into the air.

Finally, a saturated filter causes a motor overload. The motor powers the fan of your air purifier, and an overload can shorten the lifespan of your device. This is the main reason why, at Eoleaf, the annual filter change is a condition for upholding the manufacturer's warranty (the same goes for the manufacturer’s warranty on AIRVIA devices).

What does a replacement filter contain?

Most air purifiers sold in today's market feature only one or two air filtration technologies. However, the complete treatment of all forms of pollution present in the air requires a multitude of complementary air purification technologies in order to obtain optimal indoor air quality. Eoleaf uses a multi-layer technology: a filter block composed of multiple, successive filters.

Our 8-step filtration process consists of a pre-filter, a natural bamboo fibre filter with an antibacterial silver ion coating, a medical grade HEPA H13 filter, an activated carbon filter, and a photocatalysis layer. Whilst our devices also contain UVC sterilisation and ionisation technologies, the UV lamps are changed separately (every 2-5 years) and ionisation never requires maintenance.
